I have had a great week so far! I am actually understanding french better, even though it’s harder to speak.
Today when we pick the kids up from school, my HM and the kids and I are going to her moms house in Tours to stay the night. The kids don’t have school tomorrow, and we are supposed to be going to see a castle, weather permitting. I am super excited!!
This week has been really nice and sunny, except for this morning, which has been nice. Tuesday I met up with a friend in Le Mans and she showed me around the ‘old town’. It was so amazing to see the tiny cobblestone streets and how close together everything is.
We finally opened up a bank account for me. That way it will be easier to get gas, or pay for parking. It should just take a few days to get my card in.
I am looking forward to a great weekend!! 😄
This week has been very busy! We found lice in the little girls hair. So we had to do a lice treatment on her. Of course I was so paranoid that I would get them I went and got myself some shampoo to treat myself with. So finally we got rid of them all!!
My driving with the car is so much better! It doesn’t even cut off on me anymore when I am going uphill in traffic. The hardest thing is finding a parking spot, and a free one. They are very hard to find in Le Mans. I am starting to love the fact that the cars here are small. It’s easier to parallel park with such small cars.
Class is going better as well. I understand more, even though speaking is more difficult. My teacher told us today that she will take us to your the Le Mans cathedral. I am super excited about that! I parked right in front of it the other day to walk to class. It is absolutely amazing. I am also excited that we are going to the Chateau de Versailles at the end of March.
Tomorrow I get to sleep in because my HM is taking the kids to school on her way to an appointment. I think I will enjoy my sleep. Then I will probably make some chocolate chip banana bread, because they liked it a lot when I made it last week.
I love the small town we live in. We went bike riding yesterday and it was so easy to do even with the kids because there isn’t very much traffic.
Oh, I did have one bad day this week. I was supposed to meet my HM at a store similar to ikea, one town over after class Tuesday. Well my GPS decided it didn’t want to locate the address she had given me, so I was using my phones gps. Well, then I got to somewhere that the road was blocked and couldn’t go any further. I tried following their detour and ended up back where I started stuck at the road block. At this point I was panicking and trying to stay calm. I called My HM and she had to come find me so I could follow her to the store. Needless to say it was a relief to see her pull up behind me. She told my HD that night that I sounded like someone who was about to jump off a bridge when I called her.
Thankfully the rest of the week has been fine and without problem.
Well this week my HM came home from the hospital. She is doing much better! This week, the kids were sick. They were both running fevers, and I ran one right along with them on Thursday. Friday morning though, I was feeling better. Thankfully it didn’t last long. Tuesday I met with a girl that works with my HM, she was an au pair in Australia for a year. So she speaks English well. We met for lunch and she showed me around downtown. She showed me the mall and all the different shops there are along the streets. I can’t wait to just go window shopping one day. Lol. I did find out that the cinema in Le Mans plays American movies in English! Yay! Today my HD is working on hooking the tv up so we can actually watch tv. Lol, we have only been able to watch movies so far. His parents are also coming for lunch in a little while. I went for a short walk to the mailbox this morning hoping my moms package had arrived, but it hadn’t. Mail takes a while to get here. But at least I get some. 😄
Well it seems as though this week has gone by very fast, but at the same time feels like I’ve been here longer than only a week. My french classes are going well. And I am getting better with the car. The hardest part is going uphill in traffic. Trying to start back after stopping is when the car cuts off on me. Thursday was my first day really being by myself and that went well!! My HM has has to have an unexpected surgery so she will be in the hospital for about three days. I am praying as she is in recovery. The kids went to my HD parents house today. They wanted me to have my day off. So I spent my day cleaning my bathroom, going for a walk, watching an online church service, and reading a book. I pretty much have just relaxed. The cathedral in Le Mans is so beautiful! We were supposed to go see a castle next weekend, but it depends on how my HM is doing then. I can’t wait!! 🙂
Well, I finally arrived in Paris on Saturday afternoon. It was a long drive home, so my host dad (HD) was able to tell me a lot about France. Saturday afternoon I was able to meet the children and give them their gifts which they liked very much. I gave them both a book in English and a puzzle. I gave my HD a book on North Carolina, and my host mom (HM) a Mary Kay satin hands gift set. They gave me some candies from here, I have tried one and it was very good. Saturday night HM cooked a very french winter meal. I don’t know what it was called, just that it is called the name of the cheese that you melt and top the potatoes and ham with. That was very good.
Sunday HM wanted to see how my driving skills were since I will be driving a stick car. So we went to town to the butchers shop. I only stalled the car out a few times, but HD wanted to see if I would do better on his car because his is easier so we went, later, for another drive. Oh, and I saw a castle!!! I mean really!?! HD was chill as I was so excited about seeing a castle, he informs me that one is small and not famous. I told him that it was still cool because we don’t have castles where I live! I wish I could have taken a picture but I was driving so I couldn’t.
Today, Monday, I got up to help HD get the children ready for school. We took them and he drove on the way then I drove on the way home. He says I did very well. Then he let me pass the road our house is on to see if I remembered it(I didn’t). This afternoon I have to go meet the director of the language course that I will be taking. Then we have to go pick the kids up from school.
Tomorrow I will begin my language course and hopefully that will go okay. It still seems so unreal that I am actually here in France!! I will try to keep you all updated regularly. 😊
